Women In Ministry: New Website for Leaders
As the opportunities for equipping EPC women in ministry leadership continue to increase and grow, the challenge to provide resources and communicate effectively becomes even greater.
With that in mind, a new website has been designed for the posting of resources, events, and ministry opportunities. Each month leaders will be alerted to the posting of new resources that will be helpful in their ministry. Among the items posted this month are:
Training and Resources
- Book Club: "Treasured" by Leigh McLeroy (City of Refuge, Houston, TX)
- Featured Resource: "kyria" a new website supplying leaders with materials that will make you think, grow and go beyond yourself to make disciples of others
Living the Mission
- Support Staff Team Trip for Eagles' Wings in March 22 - 29, 2010
- Prayer Requests and Project Updates for Eagles' Wings

Highlights from the 2009 EPC Youthworker Oasis
Every fall, EPC Student Ministries invites youth workers from across the denomination to come together for a soul-care retreat - what we call our Youthworker Oasis.
Officially stated, the Youthworker Oasis exists "to provide a context for EPC youth workers (full-time, part-time, paid & volunteer) to come together in order to step off the front lines of ministry for a time of finding refreshment for their souls, reconnecting with family, sharpening their edges, gaining new life & ministry perspective, finding recreation and, of course, drawing closer to Christ."
Beginning this year, the Oasis shifted to a more regional event with the intent of hosting several Oasis events over the course of one year. As regional grassroots youth leader networks are developed, we expect this event to serve the unique needs of each region.
This year’s event was hosted by Signal Mountain Presbyterian outside Chattanooga, Tennessee. Their beautiful campus was the ideal setting for this event. Participating youth workers gathered from seven states including: Georgia, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio, and Tennessee.
Greg Seymour, a pastor and licensed therapist, was the featured speaker. His talks focused on identifying and withstanding the attacks on our ministry calling. Drawing upon his experience as a pastor and therapist, he skillful guiding took us through a series of exercises to strengthen our family, marriage, and ministry relationships, while using the movie, “The Matrix” to illustrate his points. Greg also provided one-on-one counseling services free of charge.
Music and worship were led by Chuck Hooten and Ryan Long, who both provided free CD’s of their music to the Oasis participants.
Oasis is a great EPC tradition of building camaraderie, long-term relationships, and partnerships across the denomination – and this year’s event was no exception.
A BIG shout out to the youth staff at Signal Mountain Presbyterian for their excellence in hosting this year’s event – Dr. Chris Robinson, Hayne Steen, Alex Walker, and Callie Latham. You guys did an amazing job!.

EPC Elkton (Virginia) Breaks Ground
EPC Elkton celebrated its 25th Anniversary with a special service and groundbreaking for a new Fellowship Hall addition on October 11, 2009. Dr. Dick Little, Moderator of the 17th General Assembly (1997-1998), was the guest preacher.
The church, with a membership of just over 150, was organized in June 1983 with forty charter members. In September 1984, EPC Elkton became the first Evangelical Presbyterian Church to be constituted in Virginia.
"Our vision," says EPC Elkton's pastor Rev. Rob Buchanan, "is to be a light on a hill by offering real hope for real life - the very real and certain hope of eternal life in Jesus Christ in the midst of life's daily challenges. At the heart of EPC is to help individuals and families stay connected to the Lord and each other, that's why we're adding on so we can reach more families."
